Site

Calhoun Mine

The Calhoun mine was one of the earliest sites of uranium mining. Pitchblende was produced intermittently in this district from 1872 to about 1916. The ore primarily came from four veins, including not only the Calhoun, but also the German-Belcher, the Kirk, and the Wood. Although few production figures are available, it is estimated that several hundred tons of uranium ore were shipped from the district. The property has been idle since World War I.
